From Asphalt Shingles to Zinc Strips

Four Signs You Have A Problem With Your Roof That Requires Repair

As a homeowner, you need to be aware of all the potential things that can go wrong with your home. That's because ignoring maintenance and repairs can lead to a lot of damage that you have to pay for. Here are a few signs to look out for that can help identify a problem with your roof that needs to be repaired.

Water In The Attic

It is worth taking a look in your attic attic after a heavy rain storm comes through town. This is because it will be easy to identify water that is coming in through the roof and getting into your attic. When a lot of water is outside, you'll be most able to see water leaking in. It could be due to faulty shingles that are damaged down and need to be replaced or flashing that is no longer preventing water from getting underneath the roofing material.

Paint Damage

Do you have paint that is cracking or peeling inside your home and you are not sure why? That could be another sign that there is a problem with your roof. This indicates a problem with attic ventilation. If you have high temperature or high humidity in your attic, that could cause the ceiling beneath your attic to have problems with paint damage. Take a look at your attic ventilation and figure out what is wrong.

Mildew and Mold Growth

Notice areas in your home that have mildew or mold growing in them — but in places where you normally wouldn't have this type of growth because it is not the bathroom? This could also be due to water or moisture getting inside your attic and extending to the rooms below. Take a look in the attic to see if there is evidence of excessive moisture due to your roof that is failing.

Shingle Damage

Your shingles have a lot of visual signs that they need to be repaired. Start by looking for shingles that are curling at the edges, which means that they are becoming brittle and ready to deteriorate any more. Your gutters and the bottom of the downspouts may have a lot of granules in them, which have come off the shingle's surface. Take a close look at the shingles to see if they are becoming bare.
