Time To Remodel Your Home? 3 Questions To Ask If The Project Includes A New Roof

If you're in the process of remodeling your home and you've decided to extend the project to the roof, you've got some additional details to consider. It's always a good idea to redo your roof whenever you remodel your home, especially when an extensive project is involved. You don't want to have an old roof on a new structure. If you're adding a room, you don't want to have new roofing material mixed with old material. The best way to avoid problems is to have your roof replaced when you remodel your home. While you're preparing for the roofing project, here are three questions you should ask yourself.

Are You Changing the Style?

If you're going to add a new roof to your home remodeling project, the first thing you need to do is consider the depth of the remodel. For instance, do you plan to change the style of your home? If your remodeling project is going to include a major change to the structure of your home, your new roof should be incorporated into those changes. This is especially important if your current roof was chosen for the structural aesthetics of your current home. If your current roof doesn't match the design of your remodeling plans, talk to your building remodeling contractor about changing the style of your roofing material.

Do You Need Municipal Permits?

If you're going to remodel your home and you've decided to include an overhaul of your old roof, make sure you have the right permits. In most cases, you won't need a permit to repair damaged sections of an existing roof. However, if you're remodeling your home and you've decided to replace the entire roof, you may need to have permits for that project. Before you begin your remodeling project, make sure the new roof is included in the permits. That way, you can avoid delays that might slow down the project.

Do You Have Adequate Attic Ventilation?

If you've hired a contractor to remodel your home and you've added a new roof to the project, now's the perfect time to take a closer look at your attic ventilation system. If your attic is hot and humid, or you can feel hot air radiating from the ceiling, chances are good that you need new attic ventilation. If that's the case, right now is the perfect time to add new ventilation. Your contractor can add attic ventilation while they're remodeling your home and replacing your roof.
